If you love a warm, homemade bake first thing in the morning, Jamie Oliver 5 Ingredients Breakfast Bread is a must-try. This fluffy, rustic bread is lightly sweet, buttery, and dotted with little pockets of fruity jam—perfect for breakfast or brunch. I made this on a lazy Sunday morning, and the smell alone had everyone wandering into the kitchen. (inspired by Jamie Oliver)
Ingredients Needed
- 1 x 7g sachet of dried yeast
- 500g natural yoghurt
- 50g unsalted butter (softened)
- 500g strong bread flour
- ½ x 370g jar of your favourite fruit jam
How To Make Jamie Oliver 5 Ingredients Breakfast Bread
- Mix the Yeast:
In a jug, mix the dried yeast with 300ml of lukewarm water. Stir in 50g of yoghurt and half the butter (chopped). Let it sit for a few minutes until slightly frothy—this means the yeast is waking up. - Make the Dough:
In a large mixing bowl, add the flour and 1 teaspoon of sea salt. Make a well in the centre and slowly pour in your yeast mixture. Use a fork to draw the flour in and form a rough dough. Once it comes together, knead it on a floured surface for a solid 10 minutes until smooth and springy. - First Prove:
Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover with a damp tea towel, and leave it somewhere warm for an hour or until it’s doubled in size. Meanwhile, drain the rest of the yoghurt in the fridge using a sieve lined with kitchen paper. - Shape the Dough:
Once the dough is risen, punch it down to release the air. Transfer to a lightly oiled 30cm ovenproof frying pan and stretch it out to fit. Press your fingers into the dough to create little dimples, then spoon in blobs of jam. Let it rise again for another hour. - Bake and Finish:
Preheat your oven to 180°C. Bake the bread for 25 minutes or until golden and cooked through. As soon as it’s out of the oven, rub the remaining butter over the top so it melts into the crust. Slice it up and serve with the thickened yoghurt on the side.

Why I Love This Recipe
This is a brilliant bake for weekends or when you have guests staying over. It smells incredible, looks rustic and inviting, and has that satisfying mix of sweet and savoury. It’s also versatile—you can use any jam you love, and it still works like a dream.
Recipe Tips
- Use lukewarm water so the yeast activates properly—cold water won’t do the trick.
- Knead for the full 10 minutes to develop a soft, chewy bread texture.
- Let it rise completely both times—patience makes for fluffy bread.
- Drain the yoghurt well for a creamier, richer texture when serving.
- Don’t overdo the jam—just enough in the wells keeps the bread moist without being soggy.
How To Store This Jamie Oliver 5 Ingredients Breakfast Bread

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
- Can I use Greek yoghurt instead of natural yoghurt?
Yes! Just make sure to thin it slightly with water if it’s too thick. - What kind of jam works best?
Any will do—raspberry, apricot, blackberry… whatever you love! - Can I skip the second rise?
Not recommended. The second rise gives the bread that light, pillowy texture. - Do I need a stand mixer?
Nope! It’s easy to knead this by hand—just a bit of elbow grease. - Is it sweet or savoury?
It’s more on the sweet side, but balanced with the tangy yoghurt and butter.
